Mirzapur: The Movie has arrived in cinemas, taking one of India’s most recognisable streaming franchises to the big screen with Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Divyenndu returning to its violent contest for power.
The Hindi and Telugu theatrical release opened on September 4, 2026. Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by franchise creator Puneet Krishna, the film is presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar.
Its central attraction is familiarity on a larger canvas. Pankaj Tripathi returns as Akhandanand “Kaleen Bhaiya” Tripathi, Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit and Divyenndu as Munna Tripathi. The ensemble also includes Shweta Tripathi, Rasika Dugal, Abhishek Banerjee, Ravi Kishan, Jitendra Kumar, Shriya Pilgaonkar and other faces associated with the franchise.
From streaming phenomenon to theatrical film
Mirzapur began as a streaming crime drama in 2018 and built its audience through dense family rivalries, memorable dialogue and a fictionalised underworld shaped by guns, political influence and competing claims to the “gaddi”. Moving that world into cinemas is a significant test of whether a streaming-first Indian franchise can persuade viewers to buy theatrical tickets for a story they first encountered at home.
